Among women with elevated blood sugar during pregnancy, nearly 11 percent had type 2 diabetes 10 to 14 years after giving birth, and about 42 percent had pre-diabetes, the findings showed.

Chronic Pain May Drive Some to Suicide

In this study, researchers led by Dr. Emiko Petrosky from the U.S. National Center for Injury Prevention and Control analyzed data on more than 123,000 suicides in 18 states between 2003 and 2014.

Daytime Drowsiness a Sign of Alzheimer's?

The long-term study included 123 adults with an average age of 60 when the study began. The findings showed that those who were very sleepy during the day had a nearly threefold increased risk of developing brain deposits of beta-amyloid, a protein associated with Alzheimer's disease.

No Explanation for 33% of Outpatient Opioid Rxs

The researchers said there's been a sharp rise in opioid prescriptions in the past 20 years -- an increase that exceeds actual rates of pain in the population. It's possible that too often, opioids are being prescribed for conditions that don't warrant treatment with the drugs, researchers said.
