Canagliflozin (Invokana, Invokamet) is in a class of medications called SGLT-2 inhibitors. These drugs cause the kidneys to remove excess sugar from the blood and excrete it through urine, which lowers blood sugar levels. This class of drugs has been linked to a number of complications, including kidney injury and serious genital infections.
